What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon Hydrotherapy, also referred to as a "Colonic" is a safe and effective way to assist in the evacuation of waste from the large intestine without the use of drugs. Colonics are similar to an enema yet the therapeutic benefits are much greater. An enema relieves the immediate tension in the rectum while the colonic/colon hydrotherapy session is designed to relieve the tension not only in the rectum but through out the entire large intestine. During a colon hydrotherapy session we introduce a gentle flow of filtered water into the colon, where waste is softened and loosened. Then through natural peristaltic movement, (natural muscular contraction) evacuation occurs. This process occurs several times throughout the average 35 to 45 minute session. On occasion, some mild cramping may occur. It is usually a result of accumulated gas and waste in the colon. (Individual experiences vary.) The gentle filling and emptying of the colon can improve peristaltic activity. Once the releasing process is complete, the discomfort (if any) is gone and you will be able to go about your day as usual.

Why Should I Be Concerned About My Bowel Habits And The Health of My Colon?

The Colon is often referred to as the sewer system of the body. It is the place where we store the waste material that most of us would rather not think about. The only time it becomes an issue is when we feel constipated or have diarrhea. Even then, most of us find it a difficult subject to discuss.

Did you know that the average person, one who is neither over-weight nor noticeably allergic to foods can possibly have 10 to 25 pounds of dried impacted fecal matter in their colon?

Still feeling uncomfortable discussing this subject? Get over it and read on.

Did you know that a build up of old putrefied fecal matter can block proper digestion, nutrient absorption and proper waste elimination? This build up of toxic debris will weaken the colon and impairs its function. Not to mention the fact that it also provides an excellent breeding ground for parasites and germs. To maintain good health your body must effectively eliminate food and bodily waste.

Most experts agree that if you are not having at least 2 bowel movements per day you should consider yourself constipated. Elimination should be complete and easy. Stool should be light brown in color. It should be the length and width of a banana with no offensive odor.

In the United States alone, over $40 million dollars is spent on laxatives per year. It is estimated that within the next year 130,000 new cases of colon/rectal cancer will be diagnosed, making it the 4th most common diagnosed cancer in Americans.

While not a cure for any disease or ailment, colon hydrotherapy may be considered an important adjunctive therapy to help you rejuvenate & maintain overall health. It is also interesting to note that many people who complete a series of colon hydrotherapy sessions in conjunction with proper diet and exercise report significant weight loss.

How Many Colon Hydrotherapy Sessions Does One Need?

Of course the number of colon hydrotherapy sessions desired will depend on the individual. Everyone's goals are different. Just as some people exercise on a daily basis or weekly basis to tone and tighten their outer body some people following an ongoing cleansing toning and rebuilding regimen for their inner body. Colon hydrotherapy could be used as part of any regular maintenance program. It can also be used as the occasional cleanse to assist with random bouts of constipation. Colon hydrotherapy can be used to help jump start a diet or relieve chronic constipation.

Does It Hurt?

The session should generally be very relaxing. Some cramping may occur and is usually caused by accumulated gas and debris in the colon. Once the session has end, the discomfort (if any) is gone and you will be able to go about your day as usual.
